Requirement – looking to improve power efficiency and come up with a different options to their current 540W toroidal transformer, with the associated size and significant weight of such a product. As efficiency regulations become ever more stringent, all manufacturers of ‘robust’ industrial equipment will begin to face this challenge.
Solution - 500W switch mode unit, currently performing tests on the required OVP to protect the PSU, and have worked to select units with sufficient ‘peak’ power that they can work as drop in replacements. They are currently testing an Artesyn LCM-600 and a Meanwell RSP-500, we have also worked with them to help specify the correct shunt regulator to protect a switchmode circuit from regeneration current flowing back into the secondary side of the PSU.
