Magnesium Alloy Die Casting

Despite the flexibility and advances of plastic injection moulding, there is still a place in the market for magnesium alloy die-casting; particularly in view of the recent progress in architectural led lighting. High wattage leds not only require a carefully considered power system, but the amount of heat generated demands good thermal management for the assembly to ensure longevity of life. With lighting systems becoming increasingly complex, the need for a custom thermal solution can be a huge factor in the solution and the time-scales of the project.

Components Bureau has partnered with a Taiwanese manufacturer to provide UK ODM’s access to a finished product which is consistently high in quality and has an excellent cosmetic finish.

Process:

Hot-chamber Die Casting

Light-weight. Up to 30% lighter than aluminium

Process:

Cold-chamber Die Casting

Characteristics:

Vibration Damping – ideal for reducing noise and vibration

EMI/FRI Shielding

Dent and Corrosion Resistance Heat Sink Capabilities

Why choose Metal Castings?

Metals Vs Plastics for EMI Shielding
   1) Metals are inherently conductive and therefore reflect and absorb EMI to an
       appreciable degree.
   2) Plastics are inherently isolative and thus transparent to electromagnetic
       radiation.
   3) Plastic enclosures must rely on surface modification or incorporation of metal
       particles to satisfy shielding requirements.
   4) Both of these approaches carry significant cost penalties, but the latter also
leads to decreased tool (die) life.
