Buffer Stock Flexibility
 A United Kingdom-based market-leading OEM manufactures a range of emergency warning beacons. A well-established company, its products are in demand across a number of markets due to the company’s reputation for expertise in the extent of their range, fast delivery response time (two weeks) and lifetime guarantee of its products. It has an order book for around ten thousand units a month, a sufficient size to call for considerable storage space, which, anywhere in the UK is going to be expensive.
As it has a common PCB assembly it contacted Components Bureau who suggested that the common circuit was manufactured offshore within the SMT production plant, needing only to hold buffer stock in the UK at the company’s own depot. As the capacity of SMT Holdings is so large, it is able to maintain their short lead-times while obviating any need for extensive storage facilities.
